Sagar is 5 years older than Sunita. After five years, the ratio between Sagar’s age and Sunita’s age will be 9 : 8 respectively. What will be the Sagar’s age Before 10 years? Correct Answer 30 years

Given:

Sagar is older than Sunita is 5 years

Ratio between Sagar’s age and Sunita’s age after 5 years is 9 : 8

Calculation:

Let the present age of Sagar = x

And the present age of Sunita = y

According to the question,

Present age of Sagar = the present age of Sunita + 5 years

⇒ x = y + 5

⇒ y = x - 5

After 5 years,

The ratio between ages of Sagar and Sunita = 9 : 8

⇒ (x + 5)/(y + 5) = 9/8

⇒ 8x – 9y = 5

Putting the value of y from above,

⇒ 8x – 9(x – 5) = 5

⇒ x = 40 years

⇒ Present age of Sagar = 40 years

Age of Sagar = Present age of Sagar – 10 years

⇒ 40 – 10

⇒ 30 years

The ratio between ages of Sagar and Sunita after 5 years from now = 9 : 8

Difference between ages = 5 years

9 units - 8 units = 1 unit → 5 years

Then,age of Sagar after 5 years = 9 × 5 = 45 years

Then, age of Sagar before 10 years = 45 - 15 = 30 years

∴ 10 years ago, age of Sagar is 30 years
