Jithu has 60 currency notes, in which some notes are of denomination Rs. 100 and remaining are of denomination Rs.500. The total amount of these currency notes is Rs. 10000. How much amount did she have in the denomination of Rs. 500? Correct Answer Rs. 5000
Let the number of Rs.100 denominations be x
Let the number of Rs.500 denominations be y
⇒ Total number of notes = 60
⇒ x + y = 60 ……. (1)
The total amount of both currency notes = Rs.10000
⇒ 100 x + 500y = 10000 ……. (2)
From equation (1), we have
⇒ x = 60 – y
Substituting the value of x in equation (2) we get,
⇒ 100(60 – y) + 500y = 10000
⇒ 6000 – 100y + 500y = 10000
⇒ 400y = 10000 – 6000
⇒ 400y = 4000
⇒ y = 4000/400 = 10
Thus the number of Rs. 500 denominations present with Jithu are 10
∴ The amount Jithu has in the denomination of Rs. 500 = 10 × 500 = Rs. 5000
