Kiran had 85 currency notes in all some of which were of Rs. 100 denominations and the remaining of Rs. 50 denomination. The total amount of all these currency notes was Rs. 5000. How much amount did she have in the denomination of Rs. 50? Correct Answer Rs. 3500
Given:
Total number of currency notes = 85
The total amount of all these currency notes = Rs. 5000
Calculations:
Let the number of Rs. 100 denominations be x
So, the number of Rs. 50 denominations = (85 – x)
Amount she have in the denomination of Rs. 100 = 100x
Amount she have in the denomination of Rs. 50 = 50(85 – x)
According to question,
100 × x + 50 × (85 – x) = 5000
50x + 4250 = 5000
⇒ 50x = 750
⇒ x = 15
Amount she have in the denomination of Rs. 50 = 50(85 – 15)
⇒ 50 × 70 = Rs. 3500
∴ Amount she have in the denomination of Rs. 50 is Rs. 3500
