Speed of the river = 2 km/h

Let the distance of the place be x km.

Time taken to go to the place = x/(10 + 2) = x/12

Time taken to return = x/(10 - 2) = x/8

⇒ (x/12) + (x/8) = 24/60

⇒ 300x = 576

⇒ x = 1.92 km
