A man can row 10 km per hour in still water. If in a river flowing at 2 km an hour, it takes him 24 minutes to row to a place and come back, how far off is this place? Correct Answer 1.9 km

Speed of the man = 10 km/h

Speed of the river = 2 km/h

Let the distance of the place be x km.

Time taken to go to the place = x/(10 + 2) = x/12

Time taken to return = x/(10 - 2) = x/8

⇒ (x/12) + (x/8) = 24/60

⇒ 300x = 576

⇒ x = 1.92 km
