A man is running at a speed of 8 km/hr along a railway track. A 150 m long train running at a speed of 82 km/hr. is approaching towards the man from his front side. In how much time will they cross each other? Correct Answer 6 sec.

Given:

Speed of man = 8 km/hr

Speed of train = 82 km/hr

Train length = 150 m

Concept used:

The train and man are moving in opposite directions, their relative speed is the sum of their individual speeds

Calculation:

Relative speed = 8 + 82 = 90 km/hr = 90 × 5/18 = 25 m/sec.

Length of train = 150 m

Time taken to cross each other = Length of train/relative speed = 150/25 = 6 sec.

∴ The required time to cross the man is 6 sec.
