Let he is on tour for ‘x’ days

His initial expenditure per day = 360/x

Now, if he exceeds his tour by 4 days,

His daily expenditure = 360/x – 3

Hence, his total expenditure,

⇒ (x + 4)(360/x – 3) = 360

⇒ 360 – 3x + 1440/x – 12 = 360

⇒ 3x2 + 12x – 1440 = 0

⇒ x2 + 4x – 480 = 0

⇒ x2 + 24x – 20x – 480 = 0

⇒ x(x + 24) – 20(x + 24) = 0

⇒ (x + 24)(x – 20) = 0

⇒ x = -24, 20

∵ x cannot be negative

∴ Mr. Ankit is on tour for 20 days
