There is increment in prices of expenditures, an increase of 10% on food items and 12% on travel. If ratio of Raj's expenditure on food items and travel be 3 : 7, by how much percent his salary should be increased to maintain same expenditure consumption as his present salary is Rs. 20000? Correct Answer 11.4%
Given,
Raj’s present salary = Rs. 20000
The ratio of expenditure on food items and travels = 3 : 7.
Let expenditure on food items and travel be Rs. 3a and Rs. 7a respectively.
⇒ 3a + 7a = 20000
⇒ 10a = 20000
⇒ a = 2000
Expenditure on food item = 3 × 2000 = 6000
Expenditure on travel = 7 2000 = 14000
Given,
There is increased in expenditure on food items by 10% and food by 12%.
New expenditure on food items = 6000 + 6000 × (10/100) = 6600
New expenditure on travel = 14000 + 14000 × (12/100) = 15680
New salary = 6600 + 15680 = 22280
Increased percentage in salary
= × 100
= 11.4
∴ His salary should be increased by 11.4%.
