EXPLANATION:

So we get-

16(A) and (B) 38

Now we get-

A is demoted to 5 ranks means A’s current rank = 17 + 5 = 22;

B is improved by 7 ranks means B’s current rank = 39 - 7 = 32;

Now the total number of students is 150.

So, left students = 150 - ( 22 + 32 ) = 150 - 54 = 96.

Hence, gap between A and B = 96.(Here no overlapping takes place)

Demoted ranked means greater the rank so addition takes place.

Similarly, improved rank means lower the rank so subtraction takes place
