A glass of 150 ml contains 15% syrup and rest water. How much water must be replaced with syrup to make syrup 35% of the mixture? Correct Answer 30 ml
Given:
Mixture 1 = 15% syrup + 85% water
Mixture 2 = 35% syrup + 65% water
Calculation:
150 ml glass contains 15% syrup = (15/100) × 150
⇒ 150 ml glass contains 15% syrup = 22.5 ml syrup
Now, syrup needs to be increased to 35%
⇒ 150 ml glass contains 35% syrup = (35/100) × 150
⇒ 150 ml glass contains 35% syrup = 52.5 ml.
Water to be replaced with syrup = 52.5 – 22.5
⇒ Water to be replaced = 30 ml.
∴ 30 ml of water is to be replaced with syrup.
