In a lock making factory, 5 percent of the total produced locks were found defective and 80 percent of the non-defective locks were exported. If 85500 non-defective locks were not exported, then how many locks produced?
In a lock making factory, 5 percent of the total produced locks were found defective and 80 percent of the non-defective locks were exported. If 85500 non-defective locks were not exported, then how many locks produced? Correct Answer 450000
Given:
5% of total locks produced were defective.
80% of non- defective locks were exported.
85500 non- defective locks were not exported.
Calculation:
Let the total number of locks produced be x, defective locks be d and non- defective locks be n.
So, x = d + n ----(1)
d = 5% of x ----(2)
n = 80% of n + 85500 ----(3)
From (3),
n = (80/100)n + 85500
n - (80/100) n = 85500
100n - 80n = 85500 × 100
20n = 8550000
n = 8550000/20
n = 427500
Substituting (3) and (2) in (1),
x = d + n
x = 5% of n + 427500
x = ( 5/100) n + 427500
100x - 5x = 42750000
95x = 42750000
x = 42750000/95
x = 450000
∴ The total number of locka produced are 450000
