A boat covers 200 m in 10 seconds in downstream. Find the time taken by the boat to cross a port of length 200 m in downstream where the length of boat is half of the length of port.

A boat covers 200 m in 10 seconds in downstream. Find the time taken by the boat to cross a port of length 200 m in downstream where the length of boat is half of the length of port. Correct Answer 15 seconds

Given:

A boat covers 200 m in 10 seconds in downstream

Formula used: Distance = Speed × Time, (s = v × t)

Calculation:

Let the speed of boat be x m/s

And let the speed of stream be a m/s

So, the speed of boat in downstream = (x + a) m/s

Now, according to question

200 = (x + a) × 10

⇒ x + a = 20

the boat can cross the port in (200 + 100)/20 seconds

∴ Required time is 15 seconds
