The total population of a town is 2800 where number of males is 720 more than that of females. If the number of males reduces by 40% and that of females increases by 20%, then find the new population of town. Correct Answer 2304

Given:

Total population of a town = 2800

Number of males = 720 + Number of females

Calculation:

Let the number of females and males be x and (x + 720) respectively

According to the question,

x + x + 720 = 2800

⇒ 2x + 720 = 2800

⇒ 2x = 2080

⇒ x = 1040

Number of males = (1040 + 720) = 1760

Now, New number of males after 40% reduction = 1760 × 60%

⇒ 1056

New number of females after 20% increment = 1040 × 120%

⇒ 1248

New population of town = (1056 + 1248)

⇒ 2304

∴ New population of town is 2304
