50p, 1 rupee and 2 rupee coins when taken in the ratio 3 : 2 : 1 accounts for Rs. 22. How many coins of 2 rupees should be added more if the number of 1 rupee coins are halved and the total value of all the coins remains same.  Correct Answer 2

Given:

50p, 1 rupee and 2 rupee coins when taken in the ratio 3 : 2 : 1

The total amount of the money is Rs. 22.

Concept:

We will be using the concept of ratio.

Calculation:

Let total number of coins initially be x

Total money to be paid = 22

⇒ 0.50 × ((3/6) × x) + 1 × ((2/6) × x) + 2 × ((1/6) × x) = 22

⇒ x = 24

⇒ New Number of 50p coins = 12

⇒ New Number of 1 rupee coins = 8/2 = 4

Total value of 50p and 1 rupee coins = 12 × 0.5 + 4 × 1 = 10

⇒ Number of 2 rupee coins = (22 – 10)/2 = 6

⇒ Change in number of 2 rupee coins = 6 – 4 = 2

∴ The required number of 2 rupees coins is 2.
