When transistors are used in digital circuits, they usually operate in the Correct Answer saturation and cut off region
Digital circuits work on two levels:
1) 1 represented by Logic High
2) 0 represented by Logic Low
These High and Low logic are obtained by switching the transistors ON and OFF.
- When a transistor works as a switch it works in cut-off and saturation regions.
- In the cut-off state, both the emitter-base junction and the collector-base junctions are reverse biased.
- But in the saturation region, both the junctions are forward biased.
This is explained with the help of the following circuit diagram:

Saturation Region: ON transistor
Cut-off Region: OFF Transistor
