Ramesh gave 40% of his salary to his son and daughter. The ratio of amount given to son and daughter is 1 : 3 respectively. Twice the amount which he gave to his son is invested in mutual fund. Out of remaining amount, he gave three fourth to his wife. After that he was left with Rs. 5250. The difference in the amount earned by daughter and son is? Correct Answer 10500

Let assume salary of Ramesh = Rs. x

Amount given to son and daughter = 40% of x = 0.4x

Amount given to son = (1/4) × 0.4x = 0.1x

Amount invested in mutual fund = 2 × Amount given to son = 2 × 0.1x = 0.2x

Remaining amount = (x - 0.4x - 0.2x) = (x - 0.6x) = 0.4x

Amount given to his wife = (3/4 of remaining amount) = (3/4) × 0.4x = 0.3x

Left over amount = (0.4x - 0.3x) = 0.1x

⇒ 5250 = 0.1x

⇒ x = (5250/0.1)

⇒ x = Rs. 52500

∴ difference in the amount earned by daughter and son = 0.3x - 0.1x = 0.2x = 0.2 × 52500 = Rs. 10500
