A sells a cycle to B at a profit of 5%. B had to bear 900 Rs. extra cost on repair of the cycle and after repair, he sells the cycle to C at a profit of 10%. If B’s profit is Rs. 300, find the price at which A brought the cycle?

A sells a cycle to B at a profit of 5%. B had to bear 900 Rs. extra cost on repair of the cycle and after repair, he sells the cycle to C at a profit of 10%. If B’s profit is Rs. 300, find the price at which A brought the cycle? Correct Answer Rs. 2000

Given:

Profit % of A = 5%

Profit % of B = 10%

CP of B = CP of A + Profit of A

B’s profit in Rs. = Rs. 300

Concept:

Consider CP of B as 100x and then proceed.

Calculation:

Let, CP of B = 100x

∵ He made a profit of 10%

⇒ Profit = 10% of 100x = 10x

∵ 10x = 300

⇒ x = 30

⇒ CP of B = 100x = 100 × 30 = Rs. 3000

∵ B made an extra expense of Rs 900, so the price at which he brought it from a = 3000 - 900 - Rs. 2100

Let the CP of A = 100y

 CP of B = CP of A + Profit of A

⇒ 2100 = 100y + 5% of 100y

⇒ 2100 = 100y + 5y = 105y

⇒ y = 2100 / 105 = 20

∴ CP of A = 100y = 100 × 20 = Rs. 2000
