Kabul is 4 hr ahead of Istanbul and 2 hr behind Amritsar. A Truck leaves Istanbul at 6 p.m. on Friday (Istanbul local time) and reaches Kabul the next day. After stopping there for 2 hr, it leaves exactly at noon (Kabul local time) and reaches Amritsar at 1 a.m. (Amritsar local time). Its journey, including stoppage, is covered at an average speed of 100 km/hr. What is the distance between Istanbul and Amritsar?

Kabul is 4 hr ahead of Istanbul and 2 hr behind Amritsar. A Truck leaves Istanbul at 6 p.m. on Friday (Istanbul local time) and reaches Kabul the next day. After stopping there for 2 hr, it leaves exactly at noon (Kabul local time) and reaches Amritsar at 1 a.m. (Amritsar local time). Its journey, including stoppage, is covered at an average speed of 100 km/hr. What is the distance between Istanbul and Amritsar? Correct Answer 2500 km

Given:

Its journey, including stoppage, is covered at an average speed of 100 km/hr.

Concept used:

Noon = 12 PM

Time × Speed = Distance

Calculation:

The truck leaves Istanbul at 6 PM Friday (Istanbul local time) and reaches Kabul the next day.

During that time,

Kabul local time = 6 + 4 = 10 PM

Hence, the truck leaves Istanbul at 10 p.m. on Friday (Kabul local time).

After stopping in Kabul for 2 hr, it leaves exactly at noon (Kabul local time).

Hence, the truck reached Kabul at = 12 PM - 2 hours = 10 AM (Saturday)

Thus, the total time taken for the journey from Istanbul to Kabul (Including the rest)

⇒ (10 PM - 10 AM) + 2 hours

⇒ 14 hours.

When the truck left for Amritsar, the Amritsar local time = 12 PM + 2 hours = 2 AM (Saturday)

The truck reaches Amritsar at 01.00 AM. (Amritsar local time)

Thus, the total time taken for the journey from Kabul to Amritsar = (2 PM - 1 AM) = 11 hours

Total time taken during the journey from Istanbul to Amritsar = 14 + 11 = 25 hours

Hence, the total distance = 25 × 100 = 2500 km.

∴ The distance between Istanbul and Amritsar is 2500 km.

If the bus is travelling from Surat to Ahmadabad and a car is travelling from Ahmadabad to Surat, then what is the distance between Surat and Ahmadabad? I. The speed of a car is 40% less than the speed of bus. Bus started at 9 am and car started at 10 am and they meet at 3 pm of the same day. II. After travelling for 1 hour, because of traffic average speed of bus is decreased by 20% and covers distance between Surat to Ahmadabad in 11 hours. Original speed of car is 20% less than original speed of bus and before crossing bus it covered 200 km if starts 1 hour later than bus. After crossing car, bus covers remaining distance in 5 hours. III. Speed of bus is 10 km/hr more than the speed of car and before crossing car ratio of distances covered bus and car in same time was 5 : 4. Time taken by car to cover the distance between Ahmadabad and Surat is 2 hours 15 minutes more than time taken by bus to cover the same distance.
