Five years hence, the age of Amit will be three times that of his son. Five years ago, Amit’s age was seven times that of his son. After five years, what will be the sum of their ages? Correct Answer 60

Let the present age of Amit is A and the present age of his son is B.

(A + 5) = (B + 5) × 3

⇒ A – 3B = 10      ----(1)

(A – 5) = (B – 5) × 7

⇒ A – 7B = - 30      ----(2)

Solving equation 1 and 2

A = 40 and B = 10

After five years, the sum of their ages = 45 + 15 = 60
