There are two students A and B. Both of them give an exam. In the exam, A scored 30% marks. If A got 14.285% marks more of the essential minimum pass marks he would pass. In the same exam, B got 45% marks and secured 28.57% marks more of the essential minimum pass marks. What are the maximum number and minimum pass marks of the exam? A. Max 600 and Min 210 B. Max 400 and Min 140 C. Max 600 and Min 200 D. Max 700 and Min 210 Which statement is/are correct?

Max 400 and Min 140 C. Max 600 and Min 200 D. Max 700 and Min 210 Which statement is/are correct? Correct Answer Both A and B

Let the maximum pass number of the exam be x and the minimum pass number be y.

According the question

⇒ x × 30/100 + y × 1/7 = y     ---- (1)

⇒ x × 45/100 – y × 2/7 = y     ---- (2)

From equation (1) and equation (2)

⇒ x × 30/100 + y × 1/7 = x × 45/100 – y × 2/7

⇒ x × 15/100 = y × 3/7

⇒ x/y = 20/7

The ratio of maximum marks to minimum pass marks = 20 : 7

Statement A = 600 : 210 = 20 : 7

Statement B = 400 : 140 = 20 : 7

Now, we can say only A and B correct.

∴ Option 2 is right.
