Given:
Total number of Subjects = 5
Maximum marks in each subject = 100
Percentage of marks scored by Vishal in all the subjects together = 81%
Marks scored in English = 90
Marks scored in Maths = (2/3)th of the marks in English
Marks scored in Hindi = (5/6)th of the marks in English
Difference between the marks scored in Science and History = 10
Concept Used:
Percentage of marks scored = (Total marks scored in all the subjects together/Maximum possible marks) × 100
Calculation:
Let the marks scored by Vishal in History = x,
∵ The marks scored in Science are 10 more than that in History,
The marks scored in Science = x + 10,
Marks scored in English = 90,
Marks scored in Maths = (2/3) × 90 = 60,
Marks scored in Hindi = (5/6) × 90 = 75,
∵ There are total of 5 subjects and each subject has a maximum of 100 marks,
The total maximum marks in all the subjects together = 5 × 100 = 500
Given that the percentage of marks scored by Vishal in all the subjects together = 81%,
we use the relation for percentages as follows: -
81 = {/500} × 100
⇒ 81 = (2x + 235)/5
⇒ 81 × 5 = 2x + 235
⇒ 405 = 2x + 235
⇒ 2x = 405 - 235
⇒ x = 170 / 2
⇒ x = 85
The marks scored by Vishal in History = 85,
and the marks scored in Science = 85 + 10 = 95.
∴ The average of the marks scored by Vishal in History and Science = (85 + 95)/2 = 90
∴ The average of the marks scored by Vishal in History and Science is 90.
