A man purchases articles and markup its price by 80%. While selling, he gives certain offers. If a person buys only 1 article, then no discount is given but if a person buys 2 articles, then a discount of 20% is given on 2nd article and 40% discount on each 2nd and 3rd article if a person buys 3 articles. What is the profit percentage of man if he sells 2 articles to person A and 3 articles to person B? Correct Answer 44

Let the cost price of 1 article is Rs 100.

Marked price of article = 1.8 × CP= Rs 180

Case 1: 2 articles are sold to person A

In this case first article is sold at marked price and second article at 20% discount.

So, selling price of these two articles = 180 + .8 × 180

⇒ 180 + 144 = 324

Case 2: 3 articles are sold to person B

In this case first article is sold at marked price and other two articles at 40% discount.

So, selling price of these three articles = 180 + .6 × 180 + .6 × 180

⇒ 180 + 108 + 108 = 396

Total selling price = 324 + 396 = 720

Total cost price of 5 articles = 500

Profit = SP – CP

⇒ 720 – 500 = 220

Profit percentage = (220/500) × 100

⇒ 44%
