In a wine, 40% is alcohol and the rest is water. Some quantity of wine is taken out and is replaced with the same quantity of another wine containing 25% alcohol. Now the bottle contains 30% alcohol. Find what part of the wine was taken out of the bottle? Correct Answer 2/3
Given:
In a wine, 40% is alcohol and the rest is water
Another wine contains 25% alcohol
Calculation:
Let the wine be of 1000 ml
So alcohol in it will be 400 ml
To make it 30% we have to make alcohol content = 300 ml by mixing 25% wine
Let 100x quantity of solution is taken out and replaced with 25% solution.
total wine content = 40% of (1000 - 100x) + 25 % of 100 x
= 400 - 40x + 25x = 400 -15x
This should be equal to 300
15x = 100
x = 100/15
100x = 100 × 100/15 = 10000/15 = 666.66
666.66 out of 1000 ml is taken out
⇒ 2/3 part is taken out
