প্রস্তাবিত পদ্মা সেতুকে কেন্দ্র করে পাল্টে যাচ্ছে দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের অর্থনীতি। ব্যবসায়ীরা ভবিষ্যতের কথা মনে রেখে সেতু প্রকল্প এলাকার কাছাকাছি জমি কিনছেন। প্রকল্প সংলগ্ন এলাকাগুলোতে ইতোমধ্যে বেশ কিছু ক্ষুদ্রশিল্প প্রতিষ্ঠান গড়ে উঠেছে। ব্যবসায়ীদের ধারণা, পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণ হলে এবং গ্যাস সংযোগ নিশ্চিত হলে সেতু সংলগ্ন এলাকায় শিল্প স্থাপনের ধুম পড়ে যাবে। পদ্মা সেতু কথা মনে রেখে পাঁচ বছর আগে থেকেই দেশের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের বিভিন্ন স্থানে শিল্প স্থাপনের তোড়জোড় শুরু হয়। প্রস্তাবিত পদ্মা সেতুর সম্ভবনাকে সামনে রেখে দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলে ইতোমধ্যে যেসব শিল্প স্থাপিত হয়েছে তার বদৌলতে মোট দেশজ উৎপাদন ১.২ শতাংশ বাড়তে পারে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।  (Bangla to English)

The economy of the south-eastern region is changing due to proposed Padma Bridge. Businessmen are purchasing lands near the project area bridge thinking about future business. Some small industries have already been established in the adjacent areas of the project. Businessmen think that industries will be established rapidly in the adjacent area of the bridge of the construction of the bridge and connection of gas is ensured. Positive changes will occur of the life-styles on the bank of Padma. Considering Padma Bridge the establishment of industries in various places of south-eastern part of our country started vigorously since 5 years ago. It is expected that the total domestic production will be increased by 1.2% because of the industries already established in the south-eastern part of the country considering the possibilities of proposed Padma Bridge.
