For just about any kind of craft, you’ll need to sand and dry the slices first. If you’re making something simple, like coasters, you may only need to add a little clear varnish to finish off the slice. If you plan to paint on your slices, add a primer, such as acrylic polymer, to the untreated wood surface to keep your paint from soaking in.
