I'm 70 and would like to retire in 5 to 6 months. My company may want me to leave before I'm ready so that they can fill the position. Am I protected at all if I give them the date now?

You are not protected. Your boss can let you go at anytime, so I wouldn't recommend announcing this several months before you're ready.
