Yes, it is faster to wrap the potatoes in foil and cook them that way. Also, most microwaves have a potato option. Make sure to poke holes in the potatoes either way. Also, it's fine to bake potatoes the day before, but don't do it much further in advance than that, because the baking, refrigerating, and reheating process can breed botulism.
