If soaking the grates in dish soap and water does not clean your grates, you can try to spray and soak them with a heavier duty degreaser. Let the degreaser set into the grates for at least a few minutes, then wipe it away and rinse with water. This process may need to be repeated a few times for burner grates that have not been cleaned for a long time.
