Male dogs are often very gentle and caring with puppies and would not deliberately hurt them. But this does depend on the individual's personality, and you should supervise him until you are fully confident he can be relied upon. However, the mother dog is the priority since she has to nurse the puppies. Make sure she is not upset by his presence and happy to have him around. If she isn't okay with him, then it's a no go.
