While a female dog should be older than 1 year and have had at least one season prior to breeding, there is no hard and fast rule as to when she's too old. Many people regard 6 as "too old," so at 5 she is just on the cusp. While it's not impossible, the complication rate is higher, and the risk to the mother greater. Breeding at this age should only be a consideration if the female is fit, well, and in lean body condition (rather than overweight), so think very carefully before going ahead.
