Depending on how long his hair is/how long he wants his hair to be after the cut, it's possible to trim his hair using only scissors by point cutting the entire head (making small snips with the tips of the scissors) throughout the entirety of his hair for a uniform, blended finish. If he wants a close cut for shorter hair, you'll need to use clippers, as scissors work best for timing hair that's at least 4 inches (10.6 cm) long.
