We actually recommend the Low Residue Diet instead of the BRAT diet now. It is basically a diet that contains a lot of starchy carbohydrates like breads and grains. You're allowed some protein in a low residue diet. You eat less raw fruits and vegetables since they can actually increase the number of bowel movements that you're having and may travel through you faster. A Low Residue Diet also limits the amount of dairy that you're drinking. That's important because when you have a diarrheal illness, you're probably going to be lactose intolerant on some level as well.
