You need to consider the plot of your book, the “vibe” you’re trying to give. If it’s a biography, just start from the beginning. This can be an introduction to the main character. For an action book, start at a plot point. If your character is, say, stranded on an island, do something like “I woke up to sand being kicked in my face.” Embrace the unusual. Read the openings of books of your genre.
