Option 1 : Administer Inj. Lasix 10 mg IV
Concept:
- Foley's catheter insertion -> A catheter is inserted into the bladder through the urethra and remains in site to drain urine.
- Indications:
- To drain bladder prior to, during or after surgery.
- For investigations
- To accurately measure the urine output
- To relieve retention of urine
- To relieve urinary incontinence
- When a foley's catheter is removed, a patient must be monitored for infection and urinary retention.
Explanation:
- Normally individual starts voiding within 2-3 hours after catheter removal.
- If not, patient should be advised to:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Walking
- Urine output less than expected outcome even after 24 hours of catheter removal, may be an indication of urinary retention.
- Treatment -> Administer diuretics (Inj. Lasix 10 mg IV)
- Infection should be treated with antibiotics.

- Type of surgery performed
- Anesthesia effect
- Medications
- Urinary retention
