Option 3 : Mastery of algebraic skills

According to NCF 2005, Mathematics develops the ability to perform necessary computations with accuracy and reasonable speed. It also develops an understanding of the processes of measurement and the skill needed in the use of instruments of precision.

Aims of teaching mathematics at the primary level according to NCF 2005 Develop students to

  • make dependable estimates and approximations.
  • devise and use formulae, rules of procedure, and methods of making comparisons.
  • represent designs and spatial relations by drawings.
  • curiously look in to solve the problems as they have developed an interest in mathematics.
  • arrange numerical data systematically and interpret information in graphic or tabular form.

On the other hand, achieving mastery of algebraic skills is not an aim of teaching mathematics at the primary level, the topic of algebra is vast and it comes more at the secondary level.

Hence option 3 is the correct one.
