- Transposition of the Great Arteries or d-TGA is a cardiac birth defect in which the two main arteries carrying blood out of the heart – the main pulmonary artery and the aorta are switched in position, or “transposed.” Because a baby with this defect may need surgery or other procedures soon after birth.
- It has lower chances to develop heart defect as compare to the other congenital anomalies.
- In case of patent ductus arteriosus it can lead to Eisenmenger syndrome, an irreversible type of pulmonary hypertension and then leads to Heart failure. A patent ductus arteriosus can later on causes the heart to enlarge and weaken, leading to heart failure, a chronic condition in which the pumping action of heart is diminished.
- Atrial septal defects usually closes during infancy. Larger atrial septal defects can cause serious complications, like Right-sided heart failure.
- Ventricular Septal Defect is a birth defect of the heart in which there is a hole in the wall (septum) that separates the two lower ventricles of the heart. If there is medium or large VSD , the heart works harder and the lungs have too much blood pumped to them. Without treatment, heart failure can develop.
