Option 4 : Statement II and either Statement I or Statement III are sufficient to answer the question.

Suppose the speed of boat in still water and speed of the current is ‘a’ and ‘b’;

Statement I:

2D/(a + b) = D/(a – b)

⇒ a + b = 2a – 2b

⇒ a = 3b ---- (1)

Statement III:

Speed of the boat in still water is three times the speed of the current;

∴ a = 3b ---- (2)

Here we can see that Statement I and III both are giving the same information.

Statement II:

The boat goes 720 meters in 1 hour downstream;

∴ (a + b) × 60 = 720

⇒ (a + b) = 12

Now with the help of statement I or II, we can get the value of ‘a’ i.e. the speed of the boat.

∴ Statement II and either Statement I or Statement III are sufficient to answer the question.
