In the Keshavanada Bharthi case(1973),it was established the parliament can alter the constitution but cannot alter the basic structure.

The following constitute the basic structure of the constitution:

  • Fundamental rights

  • Fundamental principles and values with which the constitution-makers framed our constitution.
