A boatman wants to cross a river which distance is 80 km. In the starting boatman goes to 20 km and then turn 90 degree anti-clock wise and goes 60 km in upstream after that he turn 90 degree clock wise and goes 40 km. After that he turn 90 degree clock wise and goes 60 km. In the end he turn 90 degree anti-clock wise and goes 20 km and reach his destination. The speed of boatman is 22 km/hr and speed of stream is 4 km/hr. Find the time to cover total distance?

Relative speed of boat in upstream = 22 – 4 = 18 km/hr

Relative speed of boat in downstream = 22 + 4 = 26 km/hr

Time taken by boat to cover 60 km in upstream = 60/18 = 3.33 hours

Time taken by boat to cover 60 km in downstream = 60/26 = 2.30 hours

Distance covered by boat = 20 + 40 + 20 = 80 km

Time taken by boat to cover 80 km = 80/22 = 3.63

Total time = 3.33 + 2.30 + 3.63 = 9.26 hours

∴ The boatman takes 9.26 hours to covers total distance.
