Option 2 : 96π

Given:

The volume of a cylinder is equal to the volume of a sphere whose radius is 6 cm.

The height of the cylinder is 4/3rd of its radius.

Formula used:

Volume of cylinder = πr2h

Volume of sphere = 4/3 πR3

Curved surface area of cylinder = 2πrh

Calculation:

⇒ Suppose the radius of the cylinder is 3x and the height of the cylinder is 4x.

⇒ 4/3 × π × 63 = π(3x)2 × (4x)

⇒ 288 = 36x3

⇒ x3 = 8

⇒ x = 2

∴ Radius of sphere, 3x = 6 cm and height of the cylinder, 4x = 8 cm

∴ Curved surface area of the cylinder = 2πrh

⇒ 2π(6)(8)

⇒ 96π
