P can complete a work = 12 days

Q can complete the same work = 16 days

Total time to complete the work = 9 days

Concept:

Fraction of work done = (No. of work done)/(Total no. of days required to complete the work)

Calculation:

Let, Q left after x days.

According to the question,

⇒ x/16 + 9/12 = 1

⇒ (3x +36)/48 = 1

⇒ 3x + 36 = 48

 ⇒ 3x = 12

⇒ x = 4

∴ Q left after 4 days.
