Option 4 : 6∶30 P.M.

Given 

A can do a piece of work = 8 hours 

B can do same work = 12 hours 

Formula used 

Work = Time × Efficiency 

Calculation 

Let the total work = LCM of (8, 12) = 24 

So, A's efficiency = 24/8 = 3 unit/hrs

B's efficiency = 24/12 = 2 units/hrs

A start the work at 9 am , so he do in 1 hrs = 3 

B complete the work in 2nd hours = 2 

So, total work in 2 hours = 5 

⇒ 2 × 4 = 5 × 4 

⇒ 8 hours = 20 unit

⇒ 9th hour done by A = 3 unit 

Now work is to be done in 9 hours = 23 unit

Remaining work by B in hours = 1/2 hours 

So time to finish the work by A and B = 9 am + 9:30 hours = 6:30 pm

∴ The required answer is 6:30 pm
