Option 4 : 1.4

Given

side of cube = 12 cm

radius of cylinder = 20 cm

Formula used

Volume of cube = (side)3

Volume of cylinder = πr2h, where r and h are radius and height of cylinder respectively.

Concept

Rise in water level of cylindrical vessel is equal to the volume of cube

Calculation

Volume of cylinder = Volume of cube

πr2h = (side)3

⇒ (22/7) × (20) × (20) × h = (12)3

⇒ h = (12 × 12 × 12 × 7)/(22 × 20 × 20)

⇒ h = (6 × 6 × 6 × 7)/(11 × 10 × 10)

⇒ h = 1.37 (aaprox) or 1.4

∴ The height (in cm) by which the water will rise in the vessel is 1.4 cm
