Option 3 : 2.5 hours 

Given :

One of the vessels gets drained in 3 hours 

Another vessel gets drained in 5 hours. 

Calculations :

Let the time be 't' after which first vessel has volume 3 times the second vessel.  

Let the volume of both vessels be 'v' 

The first vessel gets drained in 3 hours 

Water drained by first vessel in one hour will be v/3 litres 

Water drained by first vessel in t hours will be (vt)/3 litres 

Same for second vessel 

Water drained by second vessel in t hours will be (vt)/5 litres 

Water left in first vessel after t hours = litres 

Water left in second vessel after t hours = litres 

Now according to the question 

= 3

⇒ 5 - t = 15 - 5t 

⇒ 5t - t = 15 - 5 

⇒ 4t = 10 

⇒ t = 2.5 hours 

∴ The correct choice will be option 3
