You will want to use an air freshener that has antibacterial properties. Just spraying something that smells nice is not going to solve the problem. Internally, the biggest thing missed in trying to clean up foul smells is that most modern cars have a cabin filter. So we actually want to get to the cabin filter, since whatever pathogen or bacterial element that's making the car stink because of the air conditioning is also in the cabin filter.
