How do you use a lectern?

Lecterns have the following uses: 1) You can display books on them by using a book & quill on them. 2) They can create a redstone signal; whether it produces one or not, depends on whether it's holding a book or not, and the strength of the signal is determined by how many pages of the book have be turned. 3) They can be used to change a villager's profession to that of a Librarian, by simply placing one down next to an unemployed villager; after a few seconds the villager and the lectern wiill produce some green sparkles and the villager change into a Librarian uniform. 4) Because they're made of wood, they can be used as fuel in a furnace, smoker, or blast furnace.
