যে বিক্রিয়ায় ইলেকট্রন ছাড়ন অর্থাৎ ত্যাগ ঘটে সেই বিক্রিয়া জারন বিক্রিয়া। আর যেই বিক্রিয়াতে ইলেকট্রনের বরন অর্থাৎ গ্রহন করা হয় তাকে বিজারন বিক্রিয়া বলে। উদাহরন, Na = Na+ + e- => একটি জারন বিক্রিয়া। Cl + e- = cl- => একটি বিজারন বিক্রিয়া।
