a দ্বারা উপাদান বা ভুক্তি বোঝায় আর i,j দ্বারা যথাক্রমে ম্যাট্রিক্সে ভুক্তির অবস্থান নির্দেশ করে। যদি i=2,j=3 হয় তাহলে 'a' এর অবস্থান হবে ২য় সারির ৩য় কলামে।
