Ratio of number of female passengers to male passengers in a bus is 3 : 2 and average weight of all the passengers in the bus is 68 kg. If average weight of female passengers is 20 kg less than that of male passengers, then what is the average weight of male passengers?

Ratio of number of female passengers to male passengers in a bus is 3 : 2 and average weight of all the passengers in the bus is 68 kg. If average weight of female passengers is 20 kg less than that of male passengers, then what is the average weight of male passengers? Correct Answer 80 kg

GIVEN:

Ratio of number of female passengers to male passengers in a bus is 3 : 2

Average weight of all the passengers in the bus is 68 kg.

FORMULA USED:

Average = Sum of numbers/Total numbers

CALCULATION:

Let number of male and female passengers in the bus is ‘2x’ and ‘3x’ respectively.

Let average weight of male and female passengers is ‘y’ and ‘y – 20’ respectively.

According to the question:

+ = (2x + 3x) × 68

⇒ 2y + 3y – 60 = 340

⇒ y = 80

Average weight of male passengers = y = 80 kg

Using allegation method:

(X – 68)/(68 – X + 20) = 3/2

⇒ 2X – 136 = 264 – 3X

⇒ 5X = 400

⇒ X = 80

If the bus is travelling from Surat to Ahmadabad and a car is travelling from Ahmadabad to Surat, then what is the distance between Surat and Ahmadabad? I. The speed of a car is 40% less than the speed of bus. Bus started at 9 am and car started at 10 am and they meet at 3 pm of the same day. II. After travelling for 1 hour, because of traffic average speed of bus is decreased by 20% and covers distance between Surat to Ahmadabad in 11 hours. Original speed of car is 20% less than original speed of bus and before crossing bus it covered 200 km if starts 1 hour later than bus. After crossing car, bus covers remaining distance in 5 hours.
