On reaching city R, 40% of the passengers left the bus and 7 new passengers boarded the bus. If 25 passengers reached city S, with how many passengers had the bus started from city P? Correct Answer 40
Let the bus started from city P with ‘x’ passengers
As, in city Q, 30% of passengers left and 2 new passengers boarded the bus
⇒ No. of passengers that reached city R = + 2 = (70% of x) + 2 = 0.7x + 2
Similarly, in city R, 40% of passengers left and 7 new passengers boarded the bus
⇒ No. of passengers that reached city S = + 7 = + 7 = 0.42x + 1.2 + 7 = 0.42x + 8.2
According to question,
⇒ 0.42x + 8.2 = 25
⇒ 0.42x = 16.8
⇒ x = 16.8/0.42 = 40
∴ 40 passengers started from city P in the bus
