A vessel contains 150 litres mixture of milk and water. The ratio of milk and water is 19 ∶ 6 respectively. 70 litres of the mixture is taken out from the vessel and 4.8 litres of pure milk and pure water each is added to the mixture. What percent quantity of water is less than the quantity of milk?
A vessel contains 150 litres mixture of milk and water. What percent quantity of water is less than the quantity of milk? Correct Answer 63.42%
Given:
Quantity of mixture 150 litres.
The ratio of milk and water is 19 ∶ 6.
The mixture is taken out from the vessel is 70 litres
Mixed quantity of milk and water is 4.8 each.
Concept:
Quantity of milk/water = × total quantity of mixture
Calculation:
Total quantity of mixture = 150L
Ratio of milk and water = 19 ∶ 6
Quantity of mixture that taken out from the vessel = 70L
Left quantity of mixture in vessel
⇒ Total quantity of mixture - quantity of mixture that taken out from the vessel
⇒ 150 – 70 = 80L
Quantity of milk in 80L quantity of mixture
⇒ (ratio of milk/ total ratio) × 80
⇒ (19/25) × 80 = 60.8L
Quantity of water in 80L quantity of mixture
⇒ Quantity of mixture - Quantity of milk
⇒ 80 – 60.8 = 19.2L
Quantity of milk and water 4.8 litres of pure milk and pure water each is added to the mixture.
Quantity of milk = 60.8 + 4.8 = 65.6L
Quantity of water = 19.2 + 4.8 = 24L
Less Quantity of water then milk = 65.6 – 24 = 41.6L
Quantity of water is less than the quantity of milk in %
⇒ (Less Quantity of water then milk/ Quantity of milk) × 100
⇒ (41.6/65.6) × 100 = 63.42%
Hence the quantity of water is 63.42% less than the quantity of milk.
